Toothless Toddler?
My son will be 18 months in just a few days and all he has is his 2 bottom teeth. So it concerned me that something may be wrong. I started researching everything that I could to find out whether this is normal.
All of my research could not tell you whether or not this is normal. The doctors however can investigate this by having x-rays done and seeing if any teeth are underneath the gums.
Do I really want to put my baby through all this? So I started thinking about the word normal, what does that actually mean? Every child is different so how could I say he isn’t normal because he doesn’t have a mouthful of teeth like most 18 month old children.
From my experience my son seems to be a late bloomer with his growth. He got his first tooth at 13 1/2 months and his 2nd tooth at 14 months. So it would appear to be “normal” to wait a few months before the top teeth came in.
Well, today when I was brushing his bottom teeth, I finally noticed a glimpse of a tooth breaking through on top. I was amazed to see another, but I cannot tell if he’s going to have a huge gap or if it’s the tooth next to the front tooth coming in.
I guess waiting longer than 18 months is “normal” for my toddler.
I hope this helps some inquiring parents, who have the same concerns as I did.
